Still Going, and Going and...

Here is a sideboard update. I am a little further along than this but these are my most resent photos of it.

This is a shot of the side leg assembly with dowels ready to be glued to the carcass.

This is a shot of the bottom panel of the cabinet upside down. The rabbet is there to lighten up the look of the box when viewed from the front without giving up strength in the plywood sub-straight. Thanks to Robert Van Norman for this idea. A very good idea it was!
.
Here is the cabinet with an MDF dowel and leg routing template placed in top.

Same thing from the back.

More to come very soon.

No place for them. I wanted to get rid of that beefy bottom rail and those old legs.

Hi Ian,

I was hoping I could get a little advice from you. I'm currently making legs for a slab coffee table and want to use the mitred-bridal joint you used on your leather rocker a couple of years back. (I love that joint!)

I'm having a little trouble getting the fingers (tenons?) of the bridal joint to fit together nice. Either a little loose on one finger only and maybe tight on another. So.... my question is, do you cut one side first and transfer the marks to the other (kind of like you would with dovetails) or do you mark both pieces first and just cut to the waste side of the lines? I think I'm getting a little flex in my blade too which isn't helping. Maybe you have another strategy altogether.

The mitre is another challenge, but I've realized the key it to meet the edge of the shoulder perfectly with your mitre and you should be ok.

Anyway, kind of a loaded question, but I know you are the man to ask.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Scott

PS - you are welcome to follow my blog too, mine's less churchy than Steve's.

Easy on Steve, Scott. If you check his interests he likes football and basketball too. He also informs us that he is not a preacher nor does he play on on TV. Phew.

Send me an email and I'll tell you how I do them. lordgodfrey at gmail dot com.
